i am (for the most part) a self-proclaimed "city girl" but i grew up camping, hiking, skiing, etc. i was raised to appreciate all nature has to offer and to never take it for granted. that the earth is sacred and peace can be found in the heart of the woods. although, i don't seek peace in nature very often, i did this past weekend and it was lovely. i forgot the clarity sitting by the lake, with no distractions from the modern world, can provide. i forgot how beautiful the reflection of the sky in the water can be and how calming the sound of the wind flowing through the trees is. i took some photos (below) to capture this sense of calmness and was reminded of this quote:
"i went to the woods because i wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if i could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when i came to die, discover that i had not lived."
-Henry David Thoreau
Yup...that pretty much sums it up.
